THE PLOT
who, what, when, where, why, and how?
who, what, when, where, why, and how?
It all started with one boy’s dream. Aaron McCarthy, young and foolish and looking for love, toured the great country they call the USA. He didn’t find love – at least, not in the way we would have thought. After landing at Tampa airport, Florida, on a rainy Wednesday morning, Aaron found what he’d been looking for all along. Walking down Fort Myers beach at sunset, he felt that he was finally home. Even though he’d never been to this state or anywhere near it. So, he applied for a place in Miami University and began studying for his degree. Whilst there, he met some amazing friends who all shared one great passion – music. They decided to start a band, and Squadron Zero was born.
They worked their asses off for years, trying to get recognised but it just didn’t happen. After a lot of fights, they decided to go on indefinite hiatus. But one night, Aaron had a strange dream. He dreamt of the first time he decided to live here in Florida, and of the first time Squadron Zero had played on a stage together. He brushed it off and continued about his life, struggling through University. But he kept having the same dream and eventually he could ignore it no longer. The band got back together, and renamed them-selves The Rouge Glamour Voyage. They had all matured a lot in the couple of years they’d been apart, and suddenly people wanted to hear their music! Excited by the sudden success they had found, The Rouge Glamour Voyage went on a whistle stop tour of USA and found adoring fans at every venue they played.
But that’s just the beginning. This story isn’t about The Rouge Glamour Voyage. This story is about what happened next. Aaron McCarthy was suddenly the front man of a very popular band with quite a bit of cash that he wasn’t sure what to do with. So, he recklessly spent it on a dilapidated old house by the sea. And then he recklessly turned it into a recording studio. And then, most reckless of all his decisions – he founded Squadron Zero Records. A record label, named in honour of his band’s old form.
So, this is where we get to the good bit. Aaron scouted around for unsigned bands. He went to all of The Rouge Glamour Voyage’s old haunts, watching one crappy amateur show after another. But then he found what he was looking for, some unsigned bands he could pester to join his label. It was risky for the bands he approached, Squadron Zero was almost unheard of, and even though The Rouge Glamour Voyage was popular in their genre, they didn’t quite have the celebrity they needed to advocate the label they were associated with. But new bands are eager and make quick, foolish decisions, blinded by their hunger for fame.
And so this is where you come in. Squadron Zero records is a small fish, in a very, very huge pond and there are lots of other fish around that would gladly gobble them up for breakfast. Are the Squadron Zero crew big enough and bold enough to make it in a dog eat dog world, or will they all be the bands you once heard of in passing but never bothered to look up?
Can the Squadron Zero become the squadron heroes? It’s up to you!
